The Rustler HD's aerodynamic body features a rear wing, tough LED-ready front and rear bumpers, and an included wheelie bar. Body reinforcements help prevent pull-through damage, while the clipless design means no body posts or clips are needed. The body holds tight for intense action and can be removed quickly and easily.

The BL-2s waterproof ESC offers three programmable drive profiles: Sport Mode (forward, brake, and reverse), Race Mode (forward and brake), and the patented Training Mode (50% forward, brake, and 50% reverse). Compatible with LiPo and NiMH batteries, it includes two-stage low-voltage detection, one-button EZ-Set setup, and a heat sink that accepts an accessory cooling fan.

Running at 3300 Kv, the BL-2s sensorless brushless motor features an integrated cooling fan and efficient ball bearings. Its low-maintenance design is described as virtually maintenance-free, keeping routine servicing requirements to a minimum.

The Rustler HD comes fitted with a selection of heavy duty components straight from the box. Strengthened C-hubs, axle carriers, and steering blocks are installed as standard, HD suspension arms are fitted throughout, and the extreme heavy duty driveshafts include extra material for improved strength.

The TQ 2.4 GHz 2-channel radio system comprises an ergonomic transmitter with an internal antenna paired with the Traxxas 6519 3-channel micro receiver, which features built-in fail-safe security. The receiver is housed in an O-ring sealed watertight receiver box that keeps it dry.

The battery compartment features an adjustable hold-down and accepts 6- and 7-cell flat packs, 7-cell hump packs, and many 2S LiPo configurations, making it compatible with a broad range of battery formats.

The Velineon-ready Magnum 272 metal-gear transmission pairs with a Torque-Control slipper clutch system and a planetary gear differential with a steel ring gear. A sealed gearbox with a reinforced motor guard protects the internals, while an external gear cover allows easy clutch access. The internal gear ratio is 2.72, with a 10.17 final drive at 48 pitch.

The Rustler HD BL-2S runs on a fibre-composite monocoque chassis. Traxxas describes the construction as tough, with a wide, low-profile design that is specified to provide increased stability.

The steering is handled by a high-torque waterproof Traxxas 2056 servo. A spring-loaded servo saver is built into the design to help protect the servo against impacts encountered during use.

The suspension runs durable solid camber links that Traxxas states eliminate the need for adjustment. Captured rod ends are used at connection points, with a design that prevents them from popping off during use.

Suspension duties are handled by fully adjustable, oil-filled Ultra Shocks with X-ring technology. White powder-coated springs are fitted as standard, and the fully adjustable design allows suspension settings to be changed to suit different preferences.

The Rustler HD BL-2S rides on 2.8in All-Star wheels paired with pre-glued Alias step-pin rear tyres and ribbed front tyres. Both styles are fitted with performance foam inserts and arrive pre-glued to the wheels, requiring no additional tyre assembly.

Rubber-sealed ball bearings are fitted as standard throughout the Rustler HD BL-2S.

Precision hex hardware is used throughout the Rustler HD BL-2S as part of the standard build specification.
