Tamiya 1/24 Subaru Impreza WRC 98 - Monte Carlo
In 1990, Subaru entered the 3rd Safari Rally as a WRC with the Legacy 4WD car. Subsequently, Subaru entered the 1993 1000 Lakes Rally with the new, smaller Impreza instead of the Legacy. Due to its wider range of modification regulations as compared to group A, the machine underwent numerous modifications while competing in world rallies.
In no time, Subaru rose to the top of the pack. This Impreza had the front spoiler to cool the radiator, the rear wing to provide downforce, and blister fenders that extended to 177 mm. These spoilers were, of course, designed using wind tunnel testing data. A four-cylinder, turbocharged engine positioned horizontally is expected to produce an incredible 300 horsepower or more. After repositioning the engine as far back as feasible, the air-cooled intercooler is mounted on the front side. Moreover, the front and centre sections have hydraulically controlled electronic control active differentials. Since 1998, the engine has undergone more modifications, including the intake manifold and crank shaft. In order to allow for greater airflow, the front grille was widened, and the B-pillar roll bar was added to strengthen the body.
The Subaru drivers are Kenneth Eriksson, Piero Liatti, and Colin Mcrae, who starts the race. The fourth race in Portugal and the sixth event in the Tour-de-Corse were won by C.Mcrae. The Subaru displayed its great potential throughout the WRC stage.
