About Tamiya RC

Tamiya has a strong reputation for quality and innovation in the world of RC cars, but the company’s foundations come as a surprise to many people.

In 1946 Mr Yoshio Tamiya opened a sawmill and timber business in the city of Shizuoka, Japan. It was just two years later that the business moved into scale modeling, the first being a wooden ship. By 1953 the sawmill had closed and Tamiya specialised as a wooden model kit maker.

The early years of Tamiya focussed on military models and the first Tamiya cars didn’t appear until 1965. A year later the business began its global expansion with imports to the USA, South East Asia, Australia, and Europe. The range of models has expanded over the years and there have been some really interesting developments including a 1/100 scale model of the Space Shuttle Orbiter. It was the 1980’s that started the boom of RC Tamiya cars and in 1984 Tamiya sponsored a televised RC car program that gave them widespread appeal.

About Voltage Models

Voltage Models is one of the latest expansions of Tamiya as the company continues its growth. The West Sussex RC Model Shop is a family-run business with headquarters in Chichester. Founder, Mark Boyt, and his son Tom were huge fans of RC cars in their youth and have seized the opportunity to enter the market and share their passion for Tamiya models.

Mark and Tom have proven experience in specialist retailing and a reputation for expert advice, personal service, and speedy delivery.

Voltage Models are open six days a week and all stock is held in the UK. The team of experts is available to face to face, on the phone, or in a live chat facility to offer expert guidance and help customers make the right decisions about the best RC Tamiya cars.

The Best Selling RC Cars

Some of the current best sellers at Voltage Models include:

  • The Tamiya RC Lunch Box 2005

In striking yellow and black, this 1/12th-scale monster truck appeals to kids of all ages! Tamiya is still the best when it comes to RC cars for beginners and this is a perfect model to start with. Some purchase as a first step into the exciting world of RC Tamiya car building and racing, but for others it’s a nostalgic trip back to the 90’s.

  • The Tamiya Hornet 2004

If you’re not sure about building a Tamiya RC car yourself, Voltage Models offers a pre-built Tamiya Hornet 2004 complete with an RC Reflex Set. It’s another model with high nostalgia appeal with the first version released in 1984. It was ground-breaking at the time and has become one of the most popular RC vehicles ever thanks to its ability to operate on all types of terrain. Many of Voltage’s customers have owned a Tamiya Hornet before and its appeal is obvious. As well as being great fun it’s a chance to own a piece of RC car history!

  • Tamiya Scania trucks

These models are designed for a different type of customer but the connection and emotional appeal is just as strong as with fast RC cars. Scania trucks are a common sight on motorways and highways around the world, so the chance to build and drive a scale model of one is obvious. The quality and attention to detail in the range of Tamiya trucks is exceptional and once you’ve built one it can fuel a passion for more! The Tamiya Scania 770s is particularly popular with its pre-painted body and realistic suspension.
